French I

for ages 13+ (grades 8-12)

Cost: $800 (includes the cost of the live session plus the self-paced course plus the copywork PDF. You will continue to have access to the self-paced portion even after the year is over!)

Course runs August – May

This year, the French 1 class is a hybrid class, which means that the self-paced course which will be assigned 2 other times per week for the student to watch independently. The live class portion will be focused on speaking practice.

This class is for high school credit. It is a beginner class but goes at a slightly faster pace than the younger class because it requires more written work and involves more consideration of grammar. There is a balanced development of all four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

1. Otto Siepmann’s Primary French Course
2. The following novels are optional for independent reading to increase fluency and vocabulary:
Émeraude, le bébé tortue marine
Louis Braille,
Brandon Brown à la Conquête du Québec

Each week consists of:

  • Poetry
  • Songs
  • Picture Study
  • Reading French novels
  • Reading French biographies
  • Narrations done in French
  • Current events in French
  • Grammar in context of stories (Siepmann Primary French book)
  • Discussion/conversation in French about our daily lives and weekend activities

The feast doesn’t end just because we are earning a transcript credit!
